Dr. Winesett was in private Pediatric Neurology practice in Safety Harbor for six years before closing his practice and completing a Pediatric Epilepsy Fellowship through the University of South Florida and the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1989. He did a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at the University of South Florida from 1989-1993, becoming board certified in both of these specialties. He followed this with a Pediatric Neurology residency at Vanderbilty University in Nashville, Tennessee from 1993-1996. He spent five years working in the VA system performing diagnostic neuromuscular testing and teaching residents at the University of South Florida from 1996-2001. During this period he also served as Associate Chief of Staff for Primary Care.

Dr. Winesett had a private practice in the Tampa Bay area working at many different area hospitals from 2001 through 2007. He is now an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of South Florida. He has written multiple academic chapters in pediatric and adult epilepsy. He is board certified in adult epilepsy with a special competence in Pediatric Neurology. His practice is limited to the evaluation of intractable epilepsy for advance procedures such as surgical resection, vagal nerve stimulators, ketogenic diet, and complex medication management including experimental trials.
